As promised, I loaded Visa Beta 1 on my laptop. And as it promised, I don’t get any overwhelmingly dazzling effects (Aero Glass). The Aero theme in general is nice looking but a little overly mono-chromatic for my taste. My first impression was that it felt like a stripped down and slightly updated version of Windows XP. The windows explorer screens are organized a little different which was frustrating now that I am even more used to a left hand bar of information to have it suddenly yanked out. But under the covers, they are clearly working on some things like virtual folders and search functionality that goes beyond anyting in XP. Another key I think, will be the WinFX stuff. But since this is just Beta 1 right now, and since I want a useable laptop instead of something that may or may not work right, I think I’ll dump it in favor of a fresh load of Windows XP.
